Leaving Pattaya

Leaving Pattaya makes for a very sad day. You leave behind all that is good to make your way back to reality. Without doubt you will pass under this sign signifying that you are on the way to the airport. The sign is enough to make a grown man cry.

As posted previously (Central Festival) the Central Festival shopping complex opened on the 23rd of this month with a Mardi Gras. Many people turned up to see it and inspect the new facility.

Beefeater

Beafeater is a restaurant on Soi Diana Inn not far from Second Road. The food is very good but not cheap by Thai standards. It is great for an occasional treat. Try the steak and you will not be disappointed. The menu has plenty of other alternatives if you do not want steak. They have a good selection of wine too. The restaurant attracts many patrons from Germany and the menu is in English and German. They also serve Thai food for the ladies.

At times the restaurant can be very busy. They have seating inside with air conditioning and outside. The outside seating is in an arcade and away from any roads.

Walking Street January 2009

After the busy holiday season over Christmas and New Year Pattaya was quieter in the middle of January. There were a lot less people on Walking Street even thought he photo below seems to indicate otherwise.

While Walking Street has significantly less people the bars are about the same. There are a few less people in the bars but the better bars and gogos are still busy. However, in general this high season is not a good one. There are many bars for sale and there will likely be some bar closures in two or three months time.

Motorbikes

The roads in Pattaya are full of small motorbikes. There seems to be no road rules that they follow other than if there is a space to drive into they will go there. If driving a car in Pattaya you need to watch everywhere for them. If you are turning left make sure that you look over your left shoulder before making the turn as they will try to get past you before you turn. Same if you are doing a U-turn as they will try to go around you in front of you.

If you plan to ride a motorbike in Pattaya make sure you have good experience and good health insurance. There are many places where you can hire or buy motorbikes in Pattaya. They are a very convenient way to travel in the city but there are risks involved.

Airport Club

Airport Club is a newer gogo bar on Walking Street in Pattaya. It can be found at the north end of the street on the beach side. The service staff are dressed in 60′s style air hostess uniforms. The gogo is well worth visiting as there are many high quality ladies working in the place. Some of the service staff really stand out.

At the front of the establishment there is the usual raised dance floor. At the rear there is another raised dancing area and in the middle a wet stage where the girls get soaped up.

Central Festival

Central Festival is a new shopping complex on the block between Beach Road, Second Road and sois 9 and 10. It is located between Soi 9 and the View Talay condo development. It is a large construction and it will be interesting if there are enough shoppers to support it and the other shopping developments in Pattaya.

For Thai standards the construction has been quick. It is due to be opened on the 23rd of January but they have a lot of work to do before then. To celebrate the opening a mardi gras will be held at the development.

In typical Thai style they have not quite got things right. For some reason they have planted two large palm trees that particially obscures the name of the shopping centre.

Maximum Club

The maximum Club is a new place at the corner of Soi 3 and Second Road. It is located in a new building at the front of the soapy at the intersection. The club is on the Soi 2 level and faces that soi. The level above is at the level of Second Road. This level contains 3 beer bars (Krit Bar, Noi’s Bar and Cosy Bar.) The floors above the bars are still being developed.

Pattaya New Year 2009

Last night was New Years in Pattaya. There were a lot of people out to celebrate the night. Many bars were busy and Walking Street was full of people. The first photo shows the crowd on Walking Street that made it a slow process to get anywhere during the night. The second photo shows the FLB bar at the stroke of midnight. Happy New Year everyone.

Christmas 2008

Yesterday was Christmas and many people were out celebrating it in the way they do and that’s with lots of drink. Even though Christmas is not a part of the Buddhist faith it has been accepted by the Thais in Pattaya. No prizes for guessing why.

A good place to bring in Christmas was a the Cherry Bar on Soi 8. I’m sure that many frequent visitors to Pattaya will have problems identifying this man in red who was happily handing out Christmas present to all. I’m sure that the condoms he was given out were put to good use.
